The Black Parade album packages and campaign are a testament to what focused vision and creative collaboration between seriously talented people can yield. Varnish worked closely with MCR’s visionary front man Gerard Way, fine artist James Jean, photographer Chris Anthony, and Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, corralling all their creative efforts into one of the most fully-realized creative works we’ve ever been a part of. The cohesiveness of the vision, style and execution created a memorable campaign, one that resonated well beyond the typical album life cycle.
Matt Taylor a.k.a. Matt Varnish (or simply “Varnish”) is a Grammy award-winning art director and the proprietor of Varnish Studio Inc. Founded in August of 2006, Varnish Studio Inc has worked with some of the most prominent names and brands in music and entertainment today from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Blizzard Entertainment. Varnish prides itself on the ability to quickly adapt to a client’s needs and create compelling art and design across a wide spectrum of genres and applications. Varnish has extensive packaging experience and can provide complete production and manufacturing solutions in addition to the design.
Over the past few years, Varnish has expanded its services to include the craft beer industry, offering design, production, merchandising, packaging, websites and branding. In 2012, Varnish’s Lost Abbey Ultimate Box Set won the attention of the craft beer world as well as a BevStar award for “Most Innovative Product Collection.”
